Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that many families are learning about aquamation for the first time. These answers address some of the most common questions we receive.

Please reach us at frontdesk@peacefulmomentsaquamation.com or 269-808-6073 if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Aquamation is a gentle, water-based alternative to traditional cremation.

It uses a natural process that mimics what happens in nature, accelerated with warm water and gentle current. It’s often described as a more environmentally friendly option, with no flames or smoke.

Flame cremation uses high heat and fire, while aquamation uses water and an alkaline solution. Aquamation produces significantly less greenhouse gas emissions and uses less energy. With aquamation, families receive more of their pet's ashes because the process is milder on the body.

It’s a softer, quieter process that aligns with how many people view their pet’s transition—as peaceful and natural.

It's a more eco-conscious choice, which can be important to families who care about the environmental impact.

The ashes returned are very clean and soft in texture—some families find this comforting.

Unlike general cremation services, our process is designed exclusively for companion animals.

No. While some families are referred to general cremation providers, you also have the option to choose a veterinary-owned aftercare service. At Peaceful Moments, we provide pet aquamation in Kalamazoo, MI. A gentle, water-based alternative to traditional pet cremation, designed specifically for companion animals.

💛 Many families find comfort in keeping their pet’s care within a veterinary setting from beginning to end.

Many families are new to aquamation. It's a scientifically recognized and respectful aftercare process used by both the veterinary and human funeral industries. We’re happy to explain it gently and answer any questions you may have.

Yes. Aquamation uses much less energy than flame cremation and produces no harmful emissions like CO₂ or mercury. It’s a greener choice that aligns with many families' values.

The process uses a gentle solution of water and a small amount of alkali, which causes a similar natural breakdown process that occurs in soil. No harsh or toxic chemicals are used, and nothing harmful enters the environment or wastewater treatment facility. For reference, the same solvents are used in everyday soap making.

Because aquamation is a gentler process, families often receive slightly more of their pet’s remains returned compared with flame cremation.

At Peaceful Moments Pet Aquamation, every pet is cared for with individual identification and separation throughout the aquamation process. Pets are placed in their own clearly labeled space within our system and are carefully tracked from the moment they arrive until their ashes are returned to their family. As a veterinarian- and veterinary technician-owned service, we understand the deep trust families place in us and treat every pet with the same care and respect we would give our own.

Losing a beloved pet is incredibly difficult, and many families are unsure what to do in the moment. If your pet has passed away, please know that you are not alone. Our team is here to help guide you through the next steps with compassion and care.
